Osinachi; Minister for Women’s Affairs visits IGP, provides update on investigation, demands justice and condemns domestic violence against women – The Sun Nigeria

The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Usman Baba has said that the Nigeria Police Force under his leadership will continue to give utmost attention to cases of domestic violence, sexual and gender-based violence, rape and other vices social and to bring their perpetrators to justice.

The IGP gave the assurance of this when it received the Minister of Women’s Affairs, Dame Pauline Kedem Tallen, in her office at Louis Edet House, Abuja.

The Force’s Public Relations Officer, Olumiyiwa Adejobi, who made this known in a statement, said the minister was at the force’s headquarters to discuss the plight of women in Nigeria, particularly with regard to gender and domestic violence.

She highlighted the recent case of famous gospel musician, Osinachi Nwachukwu, whose untimely death at the hands of her husband on April 8, 2022 caused public outcry. The minister, who was accompanied by some of the late singer’s family members, demanded to know what efforts the police have put in place to ensure prompt justice.

Welcoming the minister to his office, the IGP called the singer’s untimely death heartbreaking, especially as reports from sources close to the family and independent witnesses pointed to her husband, Peter Nwachukwu, as responsible for his death.

He told the Minister that the FCT Command of the Nigerian Police, in whose jurisdiction the incident occurred, arrested the husband of the deceased at around 5 p.m. on Sunday, April 10, 2022 at their residence in Lugbe, Abuja and that the suspect is currently in custody at FCT Police Command even as investigations are still ongoing.

The IGP noted that given the sensitive nature of the case and the need to obtain justice, and expeditiously, the command approached National Hospital Abuja to have a post-mortem examination carried out on the deceased to determine the cause of death. . He said her husband would be brought to justice as soon as it was established that he was responsible for her death.

The Inspector General of Police stressed that the alleged act is condemnable in all its ramifications as it is both illegal and immoral for a human being to take the life of another in a manner contrary to the provisions of the law. He reiterated the commitment of the Force under his leadership to ensure that cases of this nature, including domestic violence, sexual and gender-based violence, rape and other social vices are given utmost attention in view to bring their perpetrators to justice in accordance with the provisions of the laws in force.
