JSW Steel promotes female empowerment


Bhubaneshwar: Leading steel producer JSW Steel has collaborated with the state government to promote gender equality and create dynamic opportunities for women’s empowerment.

The company is also actively engaged in creating a holistic environment for women in its workplace as well as creating platforms to generate livelihoods.

India’s First Women’s Business Mela, organized under the banner of the Women’s Entrepreneurship Council (IWEC) of the Indian Chamber of Commerce (ICC), is an example of her active involvement in promoting women’s empowerment.

COO of JSW Steel, Odisha Ranjan Nayak said, “Women’s contribution to India’s economy cannot be ignored. They play a vital role in the growth of the economy. JSW also believes that a vibrant MSME ecosystem for women-led MSMEs and startups is important for the growth of the state. »

The Mela is India’s first Women’s Business Mela dedicated entirely to female entrepreneurs. Over 150 booths are set up by women-led businesses.

Ashesh Kumar Padhy, Head of JSW SteelProject (Odisha), who was a guest speaker at the event, said, “Women are now emerging from the obscurity of the home and taking leadership roles in fields that were previously seen as entirely male domains. We have witnessed examples of women leaders transforming the world with their knowledge and desire for progress. They even showed their expertise in the mining sector.

CSR (JSW Foundation) Managing Director PrasantaBiswal explained that the company continuously identifies qualified women from its direct impact area and helps them grow in their respective micro and small businesses for their generation of means. of subsistence.

“As a responsible company, we try to increase our purchases from women entrepreneurs. It would help women to have encouraging business opportunities,” Biswal said.

Recently, Biswal also met Indonesian Ambassador to India Ina H Krishnamurthy for a formal discussion. His visit to Odisha was aimed at rekindling the historical trade ties between Indonesia and Odisha and converting them into business opportunities for both sides.
