ALTON – Cathy Coffman has always been involved in her community.

A graduate of Marquette Catholic High School, the Alton resident worked in banking for 37 years before retiring from Associated Bank in 2005.

She currently co-owns Sleep Systems Showroom in Alton with her husband Rich. She is active in The Bridge Church and is the events/weddings coordinator for the church. She is also active in women’s ministry, mission team, and teaches kindergarten through first grade at the children’s church.

Additionally, Coffman serves on the executive team of The Restore Network and acts as a liaison between the group and The Bridge Church. The Restoration Network works to provide children in foster care with safe homes, Coffman explained.

“They work with the biological parents to resolve their issues and regain custody of their children,” she said. “If that’s not possible, they work to provide an adoptive family.”

“I’ve always loved hosting events and making people feel welcome,” she said. “My children and grandchildren are what I’m most proud of, so choosing organizations that focus on children is what I love.”

She cites her mother as her biggest inspiration, describing her as a “feisty little lady” who worked hard and enjoyed life.

“She loved her family and befriended everyone she met,” Coffman said. “She taught me the importance of family and faith.”

Her advice to young people is to find the things that make you happy and fulfilled and use them to help others.
